    In this Lecture you will go through following Topics: 1. Nature of the roots of a quadratic equation i) Discriminant `(b^2 - 4ac)` of the quadratic expression `ax^2 + bx + c`. ii) To find the discriminant of a given quadratic equation. iii) Nature of the roots of a quadratic equation through discriminant. a) if `b^2 - 4ac > 0` and is a perfect square, then the roots are rational (real) and unequal. b) if `b^2 - 4ac > 0` and is not a perfect square, then the roots are irrational (real) and unequal. c) if `b^2 - 4ac = 0`, then the roots are rational (real) and equal. d) if `b^2 - 4ac < 0`, then the roots are imaginary (complex conjugates).

Q. 9: For all values of k, prove that the roots of the equation `x^2-2(k+1/k)x+3=0` , `k!=0` are real. Q. 10: Show that the roots of the equation `(b-c)x^2+(c-a)x+(a-b)=0` are real.
